What is MODIA?

MODIA is an investigational digital therapy designed for people with opioid use disorder (OUD). Investigational means scientists and doctors are still testing MODIA to see if using it may have possible benefits.

MODIA can be used at any time with any mobile phone, tablet, or computer that has internet. The program has 24 modules, called Chats, that provide therapy and counseling. MODIA is a unique software program that will teach you healthy coping strategies and skills on your recovery journey from opioid use disorder. It uses an interactive approach, creating a customized exchange, that will aid you in managing feelings of opioid withdrawal, cravings, anxiety, and depression.

Will I receive access to MODIA if I join the study?

Study participants are randomly assigned (like the flip of a coin) to receive access to MODIA or not. Half of study participants receive access. If you receive access to MODIA, you will be asked to use it 1–2 times a week for 15–30 minutes. You can access the program at any time and work through it at your own pace.

If you do not receive access to MODIA during the study, you may be able to receive access after the study is complete.

You are guaranteed to be prescribed routine opioid use disorder medication (buprenorphine/naloxone) by the study doctor. Study participants who have insurance will be expected to purchase the opioid use disorder medication at a retail pharmacy. All study participants take the opioid use disorder medication throughout the entire study.
